My Design Process

If you have never embarked on a graphic design project, you might be feeling overwhelmed or a little lost on how this works. Every Graphic Designer develops their own unique process and connections with their clients. My design process tends to follow along with these steps yet, remains fluid enough to accommodate my client’s needs and the scope of their project.

The following process applies mostly to larger-scale projects such as websites, logo creation, and marketing collateral. Smaller-scale projects follow a similar pattern, but the timeframes will adjust according to the current state of my client queue and the requirements of your project.

CONNECT

TIMEFRAME: 30-60 MINUTES

We will have a conversation over tea, lunch, or on the phone. During this discussion, we get to know each other and talk about your project. This gives you a chance to share your vision and I make sure I’m the right designer for your project.

CONFIRM

TIMEFRAME: APPROXIMATELY 1-2 WEEKS

After our initial conversation, I make sure you are comfortable with my process, understand the investment, feel secure moving forward, and establish a timeline. We set a deadline for project completion, sign a contract, and you will submit a deposit. I will get you started on your Pinterest boards, a thorough client intake form, or a website client workbook (whatever is required to prepare for your project). We virtually shake hands and get started!

GATHER

TIMEFRAME: 2-3 WEEKS

I begin researching your industry and project requirements. I study your competitors and continue to develop an understanding of your vision for the project. I begin to compile ideas, concepts, and design elements for your project.

CONCEPTS + REVISIONS

TIMEFRAME: 3-4 WEEKS

At this point in the process, I get to work creatively while you, my dear client, practice the art of patience. I will design samples based on my research and our conversations. I submit to you initial concepts where we have a conversation around revisions that may be needed. You choose the final design and I go back to my studio to edit, finalize, and fine-tune your design choice.

DELIVERY + FINAL DETAILS

TIMEFRAME: 2-3 WEEKS

I will make sure you are completely satisfied before the final sign-off. I will then submit your invoice and once the final payment is received, your files/printed materials are delivered.

Ink Clients: Your project is printed and shipped directly to you or we will arrange to meet in person for the delivery of your project.

Mouse Clients: Your project is virtually packed up and put into a shared online drive (Dropbox).

FOLLOW UP

TIMEFRAME: TBD AS NEEDED

I offer limited support for implementation and will be around to cheer you on! I am always available to my clients after final sign-off to answer questions, offer guidance, or begin a new project.
